LA GUERRA DE LOS ALGODONES
On one side there are twenty five thousand north american « industrialized » farmers. On the other, million of african ones still harvesting with the hand, and earning 1 dollar per day at the best. The north american cotton is on the first mondial rank, especially competitive with three billions of funds a year. On the second place, the african cotton is threatened to disappear. Between them, Europe is searching for a compromise and China has a decisive influence as a new big power.
The cotton war traduces a tragical world discrepancy but has also a meaning on future. For the first time, african nations speak with one voice. They have no choice actually. They have to fight to avoid the chaos.
A un lado, veinticinco mil agricultores-industriales norteamericanos. Del otro, millones de campesinos africanos que aun cosechan a mano y ganan con suerte un dolar al dia. En primera posicion en el mercado mundial, un algodon norteamericano con tres mil millones de subvenciones al año que lo vuelven especialmente competitivo. En segunda posicion, el algodon africano, que careciendo de apoyo financiero alguno, se ve amenazado a desaparecer. En el medio, Europa busca el compromiso, y China pesa con toda su magnitud de nueva gran potencia industrial.
La guerra de los algodones expresa un tragico desequilibrio planetario pero es tambien portadora de esperanza. Por primera vez, naciones africanas hablan a una sola voz. A decir verdad, no tienenotra opcion. Deberan batallar hasta el final con tal de evitar el caos.
